This is going to be kind of a weird statement, but I've noticed that being an 'out' Star Wars fan is very similar to being out of the closet.
When Susan let everyone know that she was a lesbian all the other women were all like, oh, that's so great to be so open about it because I can't be about my partner and I think it's great you can do that and my partner this and my partner that and all that stuff. Lesbians came out of the woodwork.
Now remember, that sounds a lot better than it is, BELIEVE ME.
Anyway so I've got my copy of the Empire soundtrack out on the desk, and a few of the guys see it and stop by and are all like, oh, yeah, Empire. That's my favorite one. What do you think of the new trilogy so far? Doesnt' Jar Jar suck ass? Do you know anything about the last movie? etc.
It's like now they can be open and be able to talk about the holy trilogy without feeling like they'd be condemned or something. And yeah I know this is kinda true about most things, but it's different from like sports or popular TV shows or whatever. It's something truly geeky and something most of us as guys keep in because we'd be shunned and whatever.
God, what are they gonna do durnig Halloween when I show up in costume...
